ABSTRACT

This research is an attempt to study the organisational learning in construction firm. Organisational learning is studied and the learning styles are explored. There have been developments in the industries, and recently the construction industry has shown intense efforts on the basis of improving their skills of learning. The firms in the construction industry have conducted activities of knowledge management for the purpose of acquiring, storing, sharing and utilising the knowledge which increases the efficiency of operations and also the effectiveness of the organisations. There are a few researches based on the styles of learning and the mechanisms which are employed in the construction firms. Even though it is obvious that what the construction firms learn, but the extent to which they use their accumulation of knowledge is still not solved. Organisations tend to learn through employees and obtain a corporate asset, which includes organisational memory by integrating knowledge of the activities in the organisation. This research has adopted a qualitative and a secondary method to fulfil the purpose of this dissertation. Interviews have been conducted with the managers of the construction firms in the United Kingdom. The results of the dissertation have shown that organisational learning plays a crucial role in the construction firms. Organisational learning is a fostered spirit of cooperation and trust between the individual and the level of the project team, individuals from various countries and partnership between the organisations at a greater level, addresses the major concerns of the construction industry in the United Kingdom. There are a number of projects which raises the issues with researches that are not addressed over the period of time.
