Introduction

With rapid changes in external environment it is essential for organizations to bring changes in their internal business activities for successfully achieving their goals. Planning and managing change is considered as one of the most challenging tasks for a manager. These changes in the organization may be brought as a result of technological or cultural change for organizational development (Paton & McCalman, 2008). To remain successful it is significant for managers to plan in anticipation of change. However, while implementing change for alignment with external environment changes organizations will face certain problems and issues that need to be addressed effectively. Implementing organizational change can facilitate positive results in the long-run and will improve organization's performance. It is also essential for managers to determine that managing organizational change is a complex task (Pasmore, Woodman & Shani, 2010).

Organizations that have implemented change have identified number of potential problems which creates an impact on success of change implementation program. Organizational development can be described as a planned organization wide effort which is managed by the top management with the purpose of increasing organization effectiveness and performance, by intervening in organization's processes with planning. The aim of organization development is to achieve long-term vision of the organization, thus to accomplish this goal it is significant for organizations to implement change for organizational development (Pasmore, Woodman & Shani, 2010). Chrysler Motors is one such organization that failed to implement changes in the organization and therefore incurred significant losses; however later after successfully implementing and managing change by overcoming the problems and issues associated with change management the company was able to achieve organizational development for organizational effectiveness and improvement in performance (Paton & McCalman, 2008).

“With changes in external environment it is essential to implement change in organizations for organizational development to successfully achieve organizational goals”.

Discussion

To successfully target customers' needs it is essential to implement change in the organization by introducing new and innovative products in the market to meet customers' expectations, as their needs and demands are changing with changes in their attitudes and preferences. Therefore, organizations should ensure to improve their strategies for effectively targeting their customers through effective change management (Pasmore, Woodman & Shani, 2010).

Research Question

Change management is critical for organizational success; however as there are changes in external environment there are various problems faced by companies in organizational development. The research will; therefore, emphasize on determining what are the trends and problems that are faced by companies for organizational development and change and these obstacles can be overcome efficiently (Mills, 2003).
