Introduction

The purpose of writing this essay is to illustrate my personal decisions regarding my professional and academic career. This essay is based on my decision of leaving corporate America to pursue higher education. Before making such a decision, I have to consider certain aspects that could affect my decision of leaving the corporate industry and pursuing higher education.

Discussion & Analysis

Making a decision of such nature requires rigorous thinking and advices from experienced people who have gone through such phases of life. There is a certain opportunity cost associated with each of the decision that I have to make for my future. According to human capital theory, the decision to pursue is the result of an economic optimizing behaviour: an individual study an additional year until the anticipated financial gain from this academic year will become equal to its cost. If I decide to leave the corporate field and pursue higher education, I would have to forgo all the allowances, accommodations and compensatory benefits that I am currently getting as an employee (Brown, 2005, pp.96-105).

Similarly, making a decision to pursue higher education will be beneficial for my future career, although I would have to sacrifice my current remuneration, but I will get a better job with greater compensation and allowances after completing my higher education. The rising demand for education reflects the growing recognition of its economic and social benefits for the individual and for all of society. Therefore, in order to come up with an appropriate solution, I have consulted to my uncle (family friend) to help me with my decision to leave corporate America and to pursue higher education. He advised me to stick with my decision of pursuing higher education and forgoing the decision to stay in the corporate field (Brown, 2004, pp.45).

He was of the opinion that there are certain merits with the decision of pursuing higher education i.e. if you're studying full time, you may be able to assert Jobseeker's Allowance during the summer holiday. By enrolling in to university, you will get a chance to experience rich and diversified culture and interaction with peers from different parts of the world. Moreover, as graduate, you will have wide range of opportunities to pursue your desired career and earn increased remuneration. There is wide range of courses offered my universities, by enrolling in to such institutions; you can specialize in any of the subject by opting elective courses. More education can also help you strengthen your self-esteem, gain respect, advance your career and even have a higher life expectancy. In general, higher education is a smart choice that can positively affect your whole future (Collin, 2000, pp.59).
