Working with Disable Children and College Counseling

Introduction

There are many people residing in this world; each with the dream of his own. There are several professions and field to be selected in the world; however, the decision of selecting a profession is not so easy. The entire life of an individual is dependent on his plan that he has formulated; this plan governs not only the professional but the personal life as well. The personality and the behavior of an individual have very strong influence on individual's decision of choosing a profession. Since my childhood I have been very keen in showing interest in the social work and the activities that are constructed for social welfare.

In the world there are 650 million people with disabilities that often prevent them from participating in social life (O'brien, 2004). Often these people harbor few illusions of going to school, to do a job, take ownership of home, create a family, educate their children, enjoy the social life and exercise the freedom of speech and independence by having a right to vote (O'brien, 2004). My aim is to work with disable children in order to provide them what they are deprived of. The area of my interest is the education to be provided to the disable children. Hence, I want to put my efforts into education being provided to disable children and then my purpose is to become college counseling advisor so that I can help disable people in getting what they deserve and also by resolving any difficulty that disable people are facing in education by counseling them.

Discussion and Analysis

The vast majority of them lack access to shops, public facilities and transportation this data was provided by Monitoring Report on Education in the World 2010; however, it is very difficult to obtain reliable data and the accurate number of disable children that are having issues in education. A widely cited source estimated that worldwide there are 150 million children living with disabilities; among these statistics four out of five disable children with educational issues live in developing countries (Adelizzi, Goss, 2001).
