Personal Statement for Pharmacy

Since my childhood, I often get confused how the people get well after taking small round pills. I have always been curious via the mystery behind producing the effects on body from various medicines aiding people to enhance the mental, as well as the physical well being. When my best friend died due to osteosarcoma, it became my desire to put myself in the field of medicine to develop the most effective drugs for cancer. My aim is that no one would loss his loved one due to cancer or other life threatening illness. I have great interest in biology and chemistry. I understand that the field of pharmacy relates to the development of drug in various dosage forms and its therapeutic effects on the physiology of the body. I have decided to involve in research, in future, for the development of novel drugs for the cancer patients.

With respect to my interest, I searched for more information concerning the development of not only different dosage forms but also the new chemical structures possessing the required therapeutic effect. From different sources and books, I got the idea of structure activity relationship regarding each molecule inside the human body, in order to produce the desired therapeutic effects (Chan et al, 2012). Moreover, I came to know that most of the drugs are obtained from the different species of plants. There are certain drugs such as anti cancer agents are also taken from plants for example vinca rosea. The further drugs either are derived from these natural substances or are synthesized in laboratories resembled to the existing chemical structures. One of my cousins is already studying in the department of pharmacy. I showed my interest in her field, she explained me the mechanism of drugs producing the effects against the diseases in body. I found the concept of binding of body receptors to the chemicals very interesting. I really amazed via knowing the presence of receptors for almost all chemicals entering the body, to generate the response via showing effectiveness or adverse events in some cases (Richardson et al, 2013).

To collect more information about the cancer drugs, I went to the hospital of our locality and work for few weeks in oncology pharmacy. In oncology pharmacy, I learnt about the regimens, the combination of anticancer drugs with respect to the stage and kind of cancer. The regimens of drugs and their doses are different depending on the cancer. Most of the anticancer agents are administered after preparing them as IV preparations in the sterile environment. The preparation of IV mixture requires extra care and pharmacist preparing the IV mixture avoid the direct contact with the drug. The reason of such precaution is the carcinogenic effects of these anticancer medications. This precaution gave me another factor to research, as well as to develop the safe drugs for the patients, along with the person involved in drug preparation, dispensing and administering.

Moreover, I learnt that the dose of anti cancer ...
