This report discovered the development of PHEVs and its existing state of progress. This research includes the benefits, disadvantages and the research based predictions for the future development and progress of PHEVs. The report briefly describes the cost and safety benefits of the model. The brief description about the design of plug-in hybrid electric vehicle is given in this paper along with all the features of the design. The paper demonstrates the series and parallel configuration of PHEVs. Introduction
The need and consumption of energy is continuously increasing. The excessive usage of fuel is highly affecting the environment as well as the economy of the country. In this situation the efficient and effective fuel vehicles are highly required, in order to minimize the cost of the fuel as well to minimize the emissions of hazardous gases. PHEVs (plug-in hybrid electric vehicles) are one of the greatest additions in order to minimize the cost of the fuel and green house gas emissions. Plug in hybrid vehicles are considered as one of the greatest technologies which aims to optimize battery and engine for better operations (Zhang & Mi, 2011, pp.300-303). It works in both the situations whether it is discharged or the grid electricity is accessible in order to recharge the battery. PHEVs are hybrids along with high power batteries that can easily be charged by inserting them into charging station or in any electrical outlet. Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles are highly capable to store significant electrical energy from the grid stations. This capability helps the vehicles to minimize their petroleum consumption in any critical driving situation. Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, plug-in hybrid or plug-in hybrid vehicle is one of the innovative hybrid vehicle which uses energy storing devices or rechargeable batteries. Those energy storage devices are very efficient devices, capable to storing large amount of power by connecting them to an electric power, like wall socket (Chu, 2011, pp. 55-57).
