Plagiarism and Other Unfair Practices are a Problem for International Students

Abstract

This paper provides an insight regarding the introduction of plagiarism within the hypothetical setting and international students. It emphasizes on the importance of avoidance of plagiarism focusing primarily upon the exotic students from diverse cultures. This paper highlights the difference between the international and unintentional plagiarism acts which is the practice by those students who lack knowledge regarding penalties and policies of plagiarism by state law. The paper concludes with examples that depict modes of technology used as a tool for detecting plagiarism along with the penalties levied on students involved in this process.

Plagiarism - Widespread Problem

In the works entrusted to the students on plagiarism is a major problem, always has been but perhaps more problem now because of the enormous amount of information available on the Internet and general facilities provided by new information technologies in which are probably more knowledgeable students that many of their teachers. In United Kingdom 47% of university students claim to have incorporated into their works fragments Web pages as if they own at least once. Other studies confirm the widespread practice of copy and paste without citing sources. Trying plagiarism should not refer only to the Internet, but must be taken very present in the facilities; there are some who have called to the Internet Paradise of Plagiarism (Clough, 2000, pp.1).

Types of Plagiarism, Improper Academic Conduct

It is not easy to define very precisely what plagiarism is because there are many ways of plagiarism that are commonly found in any academic work beyond the definition of plagiarism that can give us a dictionary. As his own work done by another person is the most elementary and transparent plagiarism, but far from the only or most frequent, there other forms of plagiarism are not always recognized as a formal plagiarism but are improper academic behaviours such as:

Copying literal sentences, paragraphs without mentioning the author.

Copying sentences or paragraphs of several authors or combine documents and more or less in the same paragraph, without citing sources. Some research shows that it is the most common type of plagiarism, to view of teachers and students.

Copy maintaining the same structure of a paragraph, but changing other words to avoid detection by electronic means.

Students can also copy from other peers and have done similar work.

Plagiarism Intentional and Unintentional Plagiarism

Something interesting to note about the different forms of plagiarism is that not all plagiarism is intentional. We can talk about two types of plagiarism:

Plagiarism intentional, a conscious deception, when present as their own what is not.

Unintentional plagiarism simply because of ignorance about what is plagiarism and on how to cite properly
