LP2.1: Enforcing Laws vs. Civil Liberties

It is important to understand that there is a difference between the enforcement of law and protection of civil rights. Enforcement of law refers to a system of law according to which the members of the society have to act in accordance with the law for the promotion of adherence to the law. Enforcing laws also include punishing the people who aim to violate the rules and regulations, norms and laws through which a society is governed. It has been observed that the punishment during the enforcement of law on the individuals who directly involve themselves in criminal activities by court. However, Civil liberties are referred to specific freedoms and civil rights that provide an individual with specific rights. Protection of civil liberties is referred to a system in which the liberties and freedom of individuals are protected, and some laws are enforced according to which the individuals could use their freedom and liberties for specific purposes. Analysis shows that the most significant liberties include the right to privacy, the right to marry, the right to be free from unreasonable searches of your home, the right to vote, freedom of speech and the right to a fair court trial (Cole, 2009). Protection of civil liberties includes the protection of all these rights of the individual that they aim to receive by the law. One of the most important considerations that could be seen in this discussion is that in both the cases, it is observed that the people of the law aim to implement what is right and enforce the law and protect the civil liberties.

It is significant that technology is giving rise to a number of new processes and procedures in every field and profession. It has also been observed that that technology has also been involved in the procedures of police and police is taking advantage of these technological advancements and implementing them in their policing strategies. One of these technologies is videotaping that is being used by the police because it helps the police during the process of interrogation. Videotaping basically refers to recording a video during an interrogation to analyze and record that interrogation as evidence.
