Teachers in popular feature films and television serials and the everyday reality of the “real” classroom

The cinema, radio, television brought new challenges, new content, stories, languages. We expected many changes in education, but the media have always been incorporated marginally (Leland, 1994). The class continued predominantly oral and written, with pinches of audiovisual, as an illustration. Some teachers used videos, movies, usually as an illustration of the content, as a complement. They did not vary substantially teaching and learning, gave a veneer of novelty, change, but it was more in the package.

The computer has brought a lot of buzz, making faster, and easier (Leland, 1994). But for years I continue to be used more as a tool to support the teacher and the student. The main activities were still focused on teacher talk and in relation to written texts. Today, with the Internet and the fantastic technological developments, we can learn in many ways, in different places, in different ways. Society as a whole is a privileged learning (Leland, 1994), but the school is still the main organizer and certification of teaching-learning.

Teaching and learning are being challenged as never before. There is too much information, multiple sources, and different views of the world. Education today is more complex because society is also more complex and so are the skills required. The technologies are beginning to be a little more within reach of the student and the teacher. We need to rethink the whole process, relearn and teach, to be with the students, to guide activities, to define what is worth doing to learn, together or apart. With the Internet and other technologies come new possibilities for the organization of classes within and outside the University. We can be a part of the classroom in a virtual or attend distance learning courses. As a university and its teachers can arrange for these inevitable changes, as appropriate, balanced and consistent? Where to start and continue?



The increasing of the teaching-learning

The classroom is the privileged space when we think of school, learning. This leads us to a teacher in front of us, many students sitting in chairs looking at the teacher, a table, a blackboard and sometimes a video or computer. Internet and communication networks in real time, there are new areas important to the process of teaching and learning, which modify and extend what we did in the classroom (Richardson, & Kile, 1999).

Open up new fields in online education via the Internet, especially in distance education. But also in education face the arrival of the Internet is bringing new challenges to the classroom, both technological and pedagogical.

The teacher, in any classroom course, now needs to learn to manage multiple spaces and to integrate them in an open, balanced and innovative.
