Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Children are the most precious and innocent creatures of “Nature”. The sight of their innocent smile makes a person feel the world in lighter way. This innocence and carefree nature differs them from “adult”, in a similar way they are different in every aspect from the adults (Cantor, 2009). Their psychology, physiology, emotional state, the way of tackling the problems, everything has different aspects. Children of today are the builders of tomorrow. Children, who are affected by something traumatic in their early stages of their lives, tend to carry it up to their adulthood unless something is done to help them. The purpose of this research is to know how the lives of these children changed and how they have been able to come into terms with what happened. It might be hard because all the children that were there at that particular time were in their teens (Breslau, 2009). They might not want to talk about the attack but some may manage to do so. As such, those who manage to open up will provide the necessary information needed to come up with solutions and recommendations. This move will get the government on board and help the families who were affected in one way or the other (Pyari, et.al, 2012).

According to the American Psychiatric Association, (2000), the PTSD or Posttraumatic stress disorder is considered to be one of the most frequent sequels after an individual witness or experience an event involving threatened, and serious injury or death or it may be a threat to physical integrity of others as well as themselves. A huge body of literature examines the prevalence and incidence PTSD rates among individuals after exposure to a particular event of trauma such as violent or natural disaster (Cantor, 2009).

A research was sponsored by the NIMH that 6 percent of children from the age of 9 to 17 yrs were observed to develop depression within a period of 6 months from which 4.9 percent were diagnosed as severe depression. Researches also indicates that adolescents and children are capable of experiencing the arrival of depression at a very early age compared to the previous generations and have more chances of experiencing severing depression similar to that of the adults (Pyari, et.al, 2012).
