Probability

Probability is a numerical measure ranging from 0 to 1 in the possibility that an event occurs. If given near 0 is unlikely to occur and if the event occurs near one is almost certain to occur. The probability is an assessment of a probable event. In mathematics, the study of probability is a matter of great importance resulting in many applications. The probability of an event is a real number between 0 and 1. The higher the number, the greater the risk (or lucky, depending on your point of view) that the event will occur is high. If we consider that the probability of a coin flip gives stack is equal to 1 / 2, this means that if you throw a large number of times this room, the frequency of cells will probably tend towards 1 / 2, without prejudice to the regularity of their distribution (Evans, 2000).

Contrary to what one might think at first scientific study of probability is relatively recent in the history of mathematics. Other areas such as geometry, the arithmetic, the algebra and astronomy were the subject of mathematical study in ancient times but cannot find a trace of mathematical texts on probability (Evans, 2000). The study of probability has seen many developments over the last three centuries due in part to the study of randomness and partly unpredictable phenomena, especially gambling. These have led mathematicians to develop a theory which then had implications in fields as diverse as meteorology, the finance or chemistry (Everitt, 1999). This study is a simplified approach to the concepts and results of importance in probability and a history of use of the term "probability" that had several other senses before that we see today in mathematics.
