Q1. Abuse and trauma could be seen as a cause for most mental health conditions. True or False? Explain your answer.

It is true that abuse and trauma can be seen as a cause for most mental health conditions because maltreatment affects wellbeing of a person in a psychologically, emotionally and mentally. The longer and immediate impact of abuse and trauma include different mental health problems for an individual that includes depression, anxiety, eating disorders, misuse, anger, behavior, inappropriate behavior of sex, aggression, and sexual symptoms. There are different researchers that have stated relationship of abuse with negative consequences of mental health outcomes such as depression, low self-esteem, extremely anxiety, drug and alcohol addiction, self-harming and even suicide. Some of the other mental health condition includes panic disorder, reactive attachment disorder and hyperactivity disorder. A study was conducted in which it was revealed that around 80% people of adults who were abused meet the criteria of diagnostic for minimum one psychiatric disorder in their lives and these people showed a number of problems including anxiety, attempts of suicide and depression. Evidence was showed in a research that more than 50% people that receive services of mental health reported to be abused as a child. An event which a traumatic creates a psychological trauma and it overcomes the ability of a person to cope-up with different elements of life and he is feared of psychosis, deaths, and mutilation. The mental condition of trauma patients can become extremely problematic for themselves and their peers because they cannot control their feelings and emotions. The people having being abused are more likely to build antisocial characteristics and they are more linked with violent behavior and personality disorders. Therefore, it can be said that abuse and trauma are most prominent and highlighted causes for most of the mental health conditions and people preventive measures should be taken by family members if anyone in the family has been facing abuse or trauma (Cassel & Bernstein, 2007, pp. 140-149).

Q2. Your client discloses they are currently being abused and are considered vulnerable. What would you do?

The initial thing which I will do is to analyze and evaluate situation of my client comprehensively. This will include their past history, family backgrounds and culture in which they are living. I will also consider relationship factors, individual factors, community factors and societal factors before making any decision. It is necessary for me to understand these factors and the extent to which few factors have more control over others because people who are victims of violence or abuse tend to experience combination of all these factors. The most initial step that I will take individually is modifying individual risk factors that include improving problem solving ability of an individual. I will perform comprehensive counseling for those people suffering from abuse so that their mental conditions can be improved and I will make them realize that they are not vulnerable and many people are present for their ...
