Quality of Service in Wireless Network

Introduction

The recent evolution and successful deployment of local networks wireless in the world opened the way for further research, development and standardization in this area. The mechanisms involved in this area are becoming increasingly complex; the requirement of this function is surety for some applications such as quality of service, security, and mobility. In the last five years, we have witnessed the emergence of local networks WLAN (Wireless Local Networks) in companies in private and in public places. There is a wide variety of WLAN products available in the market. The aim and objective of this paper is to talk about the quality of services in wireless networks.

Aims and Objectives

The main aim of this paper is to talk about the quality of service in wireless networks from variegated perspective. The objective of this paper is to first to describe the phenomenon of quality of service in wireless networks. The paper also aims to define various techniques that are used for improving the quality of service in wireless network.

Approach and Methodology

As it is mentioned above, that the paper would undertake the discussion on the basis of the literature review so, it is obvious that the methodology that would be used in this paper is exploratory research. Exploratory research chiefly provides qualitative data. It is not based on assumptions or preconceived ideas, the researcher uses when he has no prior information about a topic or very little. This method is flexible, unstructured and qualitative. Exploratory research is used for various purposes: to better define a problem, suggest hypotheses to be tested later, generate ideas for new products, gather feedback on a new concept first, protest a questionnaire or to determine the criteria involved in choosing a movie or a show.

Literature Review

Technological advances in the field of computer networks have enabled the development of vast and various fields of applications. This diversity brings these wireless networks to support varying traffic and provide services to be both generic and adaptive applications. Some applications require a certain level of quality of service (QoS) to deliver the content. Few studies in the field concerning the mechanisms have been conducted to effectively deliver QoS at the application level from level metrics such as network connection time or bandwidth. This part of the paper provides a brief overview of the literature related to the quality of service in the wireless network (Holger 2007, 12). Some international standards bodies have given various definitions related to the concept of quality of service. According to the RFC-2386, quality of service is a set of services requirements that must be met in transporting a flow of packets from the source to the destination. Depending on the X.902 standard of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) quality of service is a set of quality requirements that determine the collective behavior of one or more objects. The Lexicon ATM defines quality of service as a term that is used to refer to a set of ...
