Introduction

The Eastside School District is facing the challenge of diversification in the academic behavior and English learning levels because of high percentage of students for whom English is a second language. Their curriculum now includes in it, implementation of a new standard which could help the school overcome the problem and increase the student's academic progress and English language proficiency.

English Language learning and teaching style has varied significantly over the last twenty years. Major reason of this relates to students learning habits and their attitude towards learning rather than on teacher and their teaching styles (Hismanoglu, 2000). Recently it is revealed that teaching is more effective in getting greater outcomes if teachers taken into consideration of differences in students learning strategies and styles. English learning and teaching process is an academic act which required both teachers and students. Both students and teachers have their own unique level of understanding, and, who possess their own way of teaching and learning. Therefore the English school district has decided to implement new English as secondary curricula in its high, middle and elementary school. But given the facts, the implementation of the new curriculum has proven out to be quite expensive due to the purchase of services from consultants to guide implementation, teacher and staff training, computer software, and additional instructional materials.

Problem Statement and Research Questions

The purpose of this qualitaive study is to explore the impact of the implementation of the new english curriculum in the English School District and if it had improved the academic achievement of sixth grade students.

Research Questions

1) What is the significant improvement between the results of the students English language proficiency after the implementation of the new English as secondary language curricula.

2) What is the significant improvement between the results of the students' academic performance the implementation of the new English as secondary language curricula.

3) What is the significant difference in the satisfaction level of the student, family, and teacher with the curricula.

Case Study Design and Approach

This research is developed with an aim of evaluating the performance of the students for whom English is a secondary language. The approach of this research would be be reading articles, and the data collected from other schools who received curricula. It will take a qualitative approach that comprises of the qualitative data collection method. And it will use the primary data, as well as secondary sources. Qualitative data will be gathered through secondary data accumulation, which will base on previous renowned and well acknowledge researches on the same topic of English language proficiency among students whose English language is not their first language. Primary data will be gathered through the personal interviews of the students, as well as the teachers and families. An English test will also be conducted among the students of different grades.
