Degree Program Rational Paper

Introduction

This rational essay will provide evidence that I understand the design of my degree program and that I am able to effectively communicate that understanding to others. l will discuss how the degree program reflects the educational expectations of the college and how the degree program reflects my own background and purposes. In the process, I will give consideration to the manner in which this learning reflects my awareness of my professional expectation where applicable. I have always believed that formal business management education is a stepping stone that opens doors for an individual to progress and develop. It is in the same vein that I look forward to the pursuit of this degree program and the knowledge, skills and abilities it will provide me.

Discussion

My skills have developed significantly over the last few years. However, I understand that there is still room for improvement; and there always will be. There are certain skill areas that I have been unable to adequately address on account of the need to focus on more matters of more priority. However, I do not think that there is any further room to postpone the development of these skills (Clinebell & Clinebell, 2008). The conduction of a skill audit has allowed me to identify particular skill based areas that demand my attention and will benefit me in the long run if I give them the concentration that is due. I can hold a discussion, but an argument tends to weaken my confidence and I often find myself searching for a way out half way through the debate. Secondly, my business awareness skills demand polishing. My knowledge, skills and abilities are exceptionally well honed thanks to my teachers and team leaders, but there is still a void that I feel cannot be filled unless I equip myself with adequate beyond-textbook professional experience.

Street smarts are critical in the modern day hyper-competitive world, but an individual cannot sustain a competitive edge unless he/she is aware of the competitor's perspective (Zammuto, 2008). I look towards the study of business management as a set of rules and principles that guide business conduction and serve as standards that push managers towards the development and implementation of best practices. A manager's readiness for the adoption and implementation of knowledge is an element that is eventually incorporated into the culture of the organization. It is not merely an approach that the managers choose to exercise towards business management, but also the approach that dictates how they respond to unexpected stimuli; regardless of the nature of the same (Rusinko, 2010). A manager's readiness for innovation and development is therefore, a critical element of organizational culture, and cannot be developed through a few weeks of training and development sessions. Examples have to be studied and role models have to be given influential ...
