Advocacy for Resiliency in Adolescents Who Experience Sexual Abuse

Abstract

The present research paper focuses on the issue of sexual child abuse and affects on the lives of the adolescents who experience sexual abuse. This paper aims to provide people significant information about the mental and physical deployment of children when exposed to sexual abuse. It also explains the importance of building resilience in children who become victim of sexual abuse. Policies and preventions are also mentioned which can develop clear understanding for building resilience factor among affected children.

Introductory Statement

Child sexual abuse is an important issue all over the world which needs special attention. In USA, ever year many children get victim to sexual abuse. Apart from that, children at early childhood ages even do not have idea what is being happened to them. There are some reasons behind this issue but these reasons are still unable to report. Children who exposed to sexual abuse face mental and physical illness and some children become abnormal due to the severe effects of the abuse. These children face depression, low self esteem, no interest for social life, anxiety and lack of social support in their life.

Resilience is defined as the capability of the adolescence to recover from the tragedy and to compete with other problems of the life. The paper also focuses on the fact that children who are being exposed to sexual abuse needs to develop resilience in them so that they can live their remaining life with respect and satisfaction. Parents, teachers, friends and relatives of the affected children are also responsible for developing confident in children (Walker et al, 2012). It has been observed through various researches that children who get proper care and rehabilitation services have the more ability to bear hardships of life as compared to those children who do not get proper attention.

Scope of the Problem

It has been observed that the phenomenon of sexual abuse among children is very common in the society and it also needs to eliminate this issue from the society. On the other hand, it is impossible to totally eliminate this problem from the society but it is possible to take care of the children who are being exposed to sexual abuse. Resilience development in children, who experienced sexual abuse, needs support from the parents, society and from the affected child as well. It has been observed through various past studies that resilience can build personality of the vulnerable child and gives him the confidence to progress in his life. This issue has been spread throughout the world so there is a need of addressing this issue with proper care and attention.
