Abstract

This study highlights the major challenges for the presidents of United States, after World War II. One major threat was due to the Cold War that created problem for the presidents to end and develop better relation with Soviet Union. This study highlights the policies by President Regan to end the Cold War. His policies resulted in positive outcomes and resulted in the collapse of USSR. This study provides detailed analysis of all these policies and their positive outcomes.

Introduction

Ronald Rogan's administration is considered as a “great American political mystery” in the history of United States, especially after the Cold war. After World War II, there were various major changes occur in all over the world, such as political, demographic, economic and social and intellectual changes. World War II was the bloodiest event in the world history that resulted in altering the thoughts, perceptions and lives of people. One of the major impacts of World War II, was the shifts in supremacy and political powers at the International level. The Cold War was a worst and long struggle for gaining the political power and supremacy between United States and Soviet Union. This was not just the war for only the political power and supremacy, but also involves number factors, such as supremacy of economy, education, space technology, military and in every other field. This resulted in a number of problems between America and Soviet Union and a number of different political and social conflicts.

One of the major shift resulted as the independence of various countries from the British colonization. America was also of the countries, which emerged as an Independent State on the global map. After its Independence, administration, political system and legislative framework were the major issues of the State. American and Soviet presidents adopt various policies to manage Cold War and to maintain a balance between these states, but there was no positive outcome of it. Treaties and U.S foreign policies for the Cold War were to establish better relationships between both the states, but it did not result in the betterment. Ronal Regan's foreign policies were the major reason for bringing the change and positive turning point to such a long war and relation between the two States.

Discussion

After the foreign policies by Jimmy Carter for the relation between America and Soviet Union, it was generally considered as the negative impact in the social and political relations between the two states. After Regan elected as the president of United States, his foreign policies brought positive impact in the political and social relations between the two states. One of the major reasons for this positive impact was the understanding between Regan and Mikhail Gorbachev for reducing the tension between the two states. Apart from this, there were also problems with internal affairs and reforms of Soviet Union. Gorbachev's policies also resulted in the collapse of USSR.
