Introduction

Charles Martin Scorsese is a Director, Screenwriter, Actor and producer of American film, which won an Oscar, three Golden Globes and two BAFTA awards. He is one of the founders of World Cinema Foundation. He was also awarded the Legion of Honor French in 1987.

Scorsese primarily address the issues of Italian-American life and the concepts of guilt and redemption Roman Catholics, the sexism and violence endemic in American society. He is also known for his love of music. Scorsese is considered one of the most influential directors of his generation.

He won an award for his work as MFA filmmaker awarded by the prestigious School of Cinema University of New York. After numerous nominations throughout her career, she won the Oscar for best director for his film The Departed, which also won the Oscar for the best picture in the 79th edition of the Academy Awards, held in 2007. The Oscar was handed over Francis Ford Coppola, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, who are close friends. In turn, on 17th January 2010, he was awarded the honorary award "Cecil B. DeMille" in the awards Golden Globe for his "outstanding contribution to the entertainment field." Martin Scorsese, a descendant of Sicilian immigrants, was born in Queens, New York, but grew up in Little Italy neighborhood of the city. His parents were Luciano Charles Scorsese, and Catherine Cappa, both textile workers and parents of another boy named Frank, older than Martin. Asthma since childhood looks away from sports practices, the young Scorsese wanted to become a priest in principle, coming to join the seminary of the Cathedral College.

In the late 50's abandoned his first idea of engaging the priesthood and, influenced by John Ford, Orson Welles, Luchino Visconti, Federico Fellini and above all, Michael Powell, Martin Scorsese began shooting his first short films, like "Vesuvius VI" (1959).

Soon after, in 1963, he joined the University of New York to study filmmaking, his passion with the world of rock. During this period shot several short films as "What's a nice girl like you doing in a place like this?" (1963), "It's not just you, Murray!" (1964) or "The Big Shave" (1967) were released (Scorsese, Cocks, pp. 88-92).

In 1965, he married his girlfriend Laraine Brennan a year after graduating, and serving as adjunct professor for a while at the same university where he studied. His first feature film was "Who Hit My Door?" (1967), urban drama starring autobiographical Zina Bethune and Harvey Keitel. The film was assembled by Thelma Schoonmaker, his usual partner and key player in the artistic triumph of his future and better projects.
