Introduction

Second language acquisition is the process in which a person learns a second language. However, this term is also used to describe the acquisition of third and fourth languages. In order to leach students the acquisition of second languages, various cultural aspects are kept in mind. However, apart from the culture, it is also important to provide them a deeper understanding of the languages disposition.

Compared to first language acquisition, second language acquisition is very different as it involves several other components because the person learning this language is now older compared to what he was when he acquired his first language. With the increasing number of students acquiring a second language, it is important to maintain a balance between the provision of new knowledge and the practicing of a new skill. In order to effectively provide students with a second language, the following chapters can be used:

Chapter 1 - Teach them the Stages

It is important the person providing the teaching and the students know the stages of second language acquisition. It is only when a person is fully aware of the process by which he can acquire a second language can he effectively adapt to the language and learn it in the shortest period of time. Just as children begin to learn their first language by speaking one word sentences, the process of second language acquisition begins with the same stage.

The first stage is the uttering of one word sentences such as 'yes', 'no' etc. In this stage, the student has minimum understanding of words and also faces difficulty in understanding the instructor. Therefore, the instructor has to also use his first language to make the students understand the meanings of words.
