Introduction

This paper aims to discuss two contemporary issues regarding security as a profession. The profession of security has a lot of importance in today's world where technological advancements are taking place at a rapid speed and that has made the profession of security accepted worldwide and known as a demanding and complex profession (McCourt, 2007). There are many factors that contribute towards the understanding of the skills required by this profession, and successful practice in profession of security requires being familiar with essential skills and being equipped with familiar knowledge.

Other managerial skills that are general are also required as this field has seen much progress and improvement in the recent years in terms of development of academic programs that are formal, body language codification, and establishment of certification programs related to professional security. However, perceptions of the people related to this field still remain as an obstacle when it comes to accepting security as a profession, but there ways through which this problem can be solved and improvements can be made in the field of security education in order to bring increased awareness among people about importance of this profession. For security professionals, the most important issue is of data breach that needs to be tackled through devising proper measures and steps in the field of security as they have major impact on security operations (McCourt, 2007).

Development of security as a profession

Development of qualification criteria and proper job description will allow security to be accepted as a subject in academics and as a profession. What that matters ultimately are the people's views and perceptions in terms of society attitude and in terms of opinion about security as a whole, that is related to decision makers of the corporate world. Those who are in the industry alone cannot make major decisions about the extent to which the profession of security is important, the consumers and beneficiaries of the services related to security are the ones who decide the importance of the security profession.

Many factors need to be studied and certain terms need to be established by the field of security in order to make its position firm. These factors include formation and promotion of defined and specific qualification criteria (Axt, 2002). Then, acceptance needs to be brought regarding the achievement of such criteria and studies related to the field of security need to be promoted. Other than that, security managers also need to develop skills that are related to the business field in order for them to earn the respect they deserve in the organization. Moreover, security managers also need to be capable to get their message across for the development of profound understanding and appreciation of their work by the executives of the organization (Axt, 2002).
