Introduction

Today, more and more children are getting mental disorders. It is affecting every other child. Several mental disorders go unnoticed and so the number of mentally ill children is on the rise. Psychiatric medications are being used to treat schizophrenia, depression, bipolar, anxiety and conduct disorders and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), but there is a dispute over the usage of drugs to cure mental disorders of children and adolescents.

Problem Statement

According to the Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR), 20 million children are on psychiatric drugs, and four children after every four months die due their ill effects. Twelve international drug regulatory bodies have warned on stimulants which causes addiction, depression, insomnia, psychosis, heart stroke and even death. The commission has also released a report on the side effects of psychiatric drugs.

Purpose of the Study

The study will evaluate if medication is the only option left to cure children with mental disorders. It will focus on the need to educate parents to have knowledge about the prescribed drugs in order to monitor their child's treatment.
