INTRODUCTION

This report will shed light on the social development process of a sustainable community i.e. Kingston estate, located in Corby. This report will also include different processes that are related to the social development of communities. The development needs of the community will be identified through motivational interviewing group exercise.

This report also includes a review of relevant literature. The topics that will be covered in the literature review section include community development, development needs, and different issues faced by the community. The issues and development needs of Kingston will be investigated through the use of both primary and secondary data.

The report will also present a portfolio of interventions. In order to establish and analyze the profiling data of community, investigatory techniques will be utilized. The report will also explore the wicked issues of the community. In order to present those wicked issues, rich pictures will be used.

LITERATURE REVIEW

There are several studies that have been conducted on community development. Community development is a structured intervention that results in increasing the control over different conditions of a community. Nevertheless, a control over living conditions is not a solution to all of community problems. The studies conducted on community development have also highlighted the lack of effectiveness of community development programs. In several situations, community development programs fail to improve the quality of life in communities (Lindsay,Orton,2009,77-105). There are diverse reasons that led toward the ineffectiveness of a community development program. One of the most common problems is the attitude of development planners who fail to recognize the actual needs of the community (Lyndon, Moorthy, & Selvadurai, 2011, pp. 643).

Development is a process that results in the overall strong functioning of a community. Development involves presenting new options, ideas, and issues. Development also involves changes, improvement, and vitality. Community development results in the elimination of the concept of zero sum situation in which one job is obtained at the expense of losing another job. Instead, community development increases the number of opportunities available to people (Craig,Mayo,2011,54-89). Therefore, community and development together means engaging a community in a process that improves social, economic, and environmental situation of the community.
