SUMMARY

The research study focuses on the staff development of Omani nurses. The research is based on the perception of Omani nurses regarding the various staff development activities. The research enlightens the concept of staff development and patient education for the better attendance in health care institutions. Ongoing programs of education provided authorities are employed for the purpose of assisting individual nurses in training new knowledge, skill and attitude to go professional as a part of staff development programs in nursing care. A major role is played by the staff development section in the professional development and training of the nursing personnel, the provision of an effective nursing environment for different employees. In this regard, the research purpose is aimed at investigating the curriculum for designing the staff development program for nurses of night shift change handover practices that enhances the continuity of patient care. The research will be based on mixed methodology and use both the qualitative as well as the quantitative research approach. Questionnaires would be filled out and interviews conducted for gathering primary data. While the secondary data will be gathered by reviewing a wide range of literature available on various resource centres online. A large sample size would be used in order to make the conclusion and results as close to the general population as possible. Apart from that, statistical techniques would be used for analysing the collected primary data to come to a concrete conclusion.

ABSTRACT

This study will explore the perception of Omani nurses towards attendance of staff development activities. The findings of this study will bring out different views regarding the perceptions of staff regarding staff development programs. This could as a baseline date for better attendance in the health care institutions. The findings also could form a curriculum for staff development training and continuing education programs for nurses in Oman.
