ABSTRACT

In this study we try to explore the facts about Stealth technology. What is stealth technology, how it works, what are the technicalities for the same. Moreover, the research of this study further focuses on use of stealth technology by the US army and its supremacy among the other countries using the same technology and then the study investigates the fact that the this race of stealth technology is an ultimate disaster for United States; as it is surpassing the America's development interest in general. Ultimately, the quest for stealth technology is leading America towards a major disadvantage to the future of air dominance or air superiority.

Chapter I: Introduction

The concept of Air superiority has become one of the major issues in the USA over the past few years. The debate started after the US forces started their operations in Afghanistan in 2001. When they started their operations in Iraq in 2003, this issue even then gained further momentum. Since, then lot of work has taken place in this particular area. The idea regarding "revolution in military affairs" (RMA) was based on new Stealth technology and it created a positive impact on the minds of defense intellectuals and policymakers for around three decades. During that point of time, it comprised major portion of the U.S. Defense Department's investments and experiments in new stealth technology. This issue even became important during the Presidential Election in 2000 when George W Bush and Al-Gore campaigned against each other. They both highlighted the issue of “Air superiority” to their public and stressed the importance of this aspect. This is the reason why transforming the military became a prime goal for US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld when he started his work in 2001. (Rose, 2005)

 To win the freedom of maneuver in the air and on land we need: 1) a minimum of local air superiority and 2) a maximum of air supremacy over the entire theater. But this does not affect the title of this article. To gain freedom of action proper air, you do not have to commit significant military resources. The time and circumstances will determine the realistic level of the implementation of resources.In fact, the main objective is not to eliminate the air threat of the opponent but to determine if we need to launch a separate campaign for air superiority in order to eliminate these threats before attacking strategic targets or we can do without this campaign and directly attack the vital centers of the enemy.
