Abstract

Culture is the shared values and beliefs followed by any society, and it has a great impact on the people living in that society. Culture has strong impact on all the phases of life of the people. The modes of subsistence has strong impacts on the culture of the socities. This impact varies from culture to culture and society to society, and people are influenced by it. The mode of subsistence show the fundamental and basic needs of life without which one cant exist in the society.

Introduction

Culture is the commonly shared beliefs, knowledge, behavior and many other characteristics in a group or society. Many different societal aspects are included in forming a culture of the society. These aspects include language, values, norms, customs, morals, technology, and organizations. There are different modes of culture existing in the world, where the human beings exist. People follow their culture according to their society where they live their lives. Many societies are formed which differ according to their location, proximity, technology, values as well as way of living. There are several cultures and sub cultures formed in different societies which share distinct beliefs and knowledge. None of the two societies are identical; they possess different aspects and qualities which differentiate each society with the other one.

The Amish

The Amish communities are present in twenty eight different states as they are scattered throughout the communities. There are approximately 150, 000 people related to the Amish communities nationwide. The Amish people are commonly also known as Plain People, because of the way they dress up along with how they use technology, reflects their culture. The Amish people have a family centered lifestyle, which is common throughout the nations. They have strong faith in their God, and they worship it with full heart and spend hours in worshiping. The largest population of the Amish people is in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Amish people prefer staying separate and isolated from the world, which is a reason why they don't want to mingle with the people of different cultures and societies. They do not even communicate with people other than their own culture, and consider it as something awkward.

Background

The roots of the Amish communities show that it is a branch of Christianity, who worship and follow the teachings of Christ. The Amish were found in the Anabaptist movement's year's back, in the sixteenth century. There are no more Amish people living in Europe today, even though in the past the number of Amish people in Europe was very high (Weyer, et al. 2010).
