The Goals of Substance Abuse Programs

Description of Concrete Experience

My career as a paraprofessional counselor started as an assistant rehabilitation counselor in a local rehabilitation centre of the community health care system. In one year of my on job training, I observed the nitty-gritty of the aims and objectives of the rehabilitation center. The goal of the rehabilitation center was to facilitate the patients with exceptional rehabilitation treatment according to their medical history as well as by thoroughly examining the psychological integration of the substance abuse in the personality of the patient. Throughout my job I observed that the element of recovery through psychological treatment is prominently sharp in the goals of this particular rehabilitation centre.

Reflections

Working with my peer paraprofessionals, professional counselors as well as specialists enhanced my knowledge as well as expertise pertain to the counseling of the patients who have been addicted to substance abuse. Trough out my job I observed that the professional counselors as well as paraprofessionals in that particular rehabilitation center utilize their maximum potential to make the counseling efficient and reflective to the factual psychological as well as physical condition of the patients. Being a part of the rehabilitation centre I observed that their goal is to establish supportive working environment in the rehabilitation center in order to enhance the skills of the staffs as well as to induce the involvement of the patients in their rehabilitation treatment.

Generalizations, Principles, & Theories

Throughout my job I experienced prominent integration of the theories as well as principals of the substance abuse counseling in the context of psychology in the aims and objectives of this particular rehabilitation center. I have observed through my experience that the crux of the ultimate goals of the rehabilitation centre are in accord with the crux of the general theories and principals pertain to the substance abuse that are exceptionally crucial to facilitate the rehabilitation process of the patient. Moreover, during my training time period i observed that the management of the rehabilitation centre has prominent focus on stimulating the correlation between the goals of the center and the psychological theories of the substance abuse such as reinforcement and inadequate personality. However, I experienced reshaping of problem behavior proneness as the most prominent goal of the rehabilitation experience.

Testing and Application

During my working experience I have been through various substance abuse cases. Thorough examining of the treatment process of those patients and the observation of their recovery patterns triggered a psychological move in my mind regarding the involvement of the friends and families of the patients in their treatment. Exceptionally prominent improvement was observed I the recovery of the substance abuse patient by stimulating the involvement of their families and friends in their treatment process to make them feel psychologically pampered by their loved ones.
