This project will define the organization that will be used to carry forward the project. It will include the strengths and weaknesses of that organization along with the evidence. Definition of SWOT analysis

SWOT stands for Strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats. These are the components of SWOT analysis. The objective of SWOT analysis is to provide an organization a complete visual of these four elements simultaneously. It is important for an organization to know its strengths and weaknesses before trying to develop opportunities. The internal strengths of a can be used in order to take advantage of opportunities accessible in the external environment.

Scope of project

The goal of this project is to give information about strengths and weaknesses of a nonprofit organization. The organization that is indented to be carried forward for the project is “Friends of Orphans”.

Introduction of organization

“Friends of Orphans” is a nonprofit organization based in Chicago. The mission of the organization is to provide support to those children who are orphaned and abandoned living in Latin America and the Caribbean. The organization is run by the funds raised from people of United States. The organization has homes for children in five different locations. There are over 3600 children who are receiving the organization's help to live in NPH houses. The organization has 40 staff members along with hundreds of volunteers.

Strength

Internal strengths of an organization inform the managers about what is desirable and what is permissible. The external environment is a mean to find out what is possible. Most of the companies ask their employees to conduct the analysis of SWOT. There are also few companies who outsource the SWOT analysis to specialist firms.

Commitment of the donors

The key strength of Friends of the Orphan is the support of its passionate donors. The organization has successfully developed a support base of people who donates money for the functioning of the organization. The donors of this organization include founding members of different branches of Friends of Orphans. Other donors of the company are those who visit one of more homes of children. These donors have built long lasting relation with children living in NPH homes. To some extent, the donors help Friends of Orphans to deal with the economic fluctuations. This strength of having committed donors reduces the risk of having financial deficits. The organization relies on a large number of small donors. Having a large number of donors helps the organization to decrease the risk of immediate donation decline. There is no single donor who has high extent of impact on the functioning of the organization. The commitments of donors assist the organization to have a consistent level of performance. The recession for 2009 has a huge impact on many of the nonprofit organizations, but the amount of donation increased by 9% for Friends of Orphans.
