Introduction

 The area at the back of the knee is called collateral ligament, which attaches two strings to the femur bone with the leg bones. The two ligaments are the internal ligament that attaches the tibia and the external ligament that attaches to the fibula. The function of these strings is to stabilize the knee, preventing the leg from moving sideways when under a strain. Most knee injuries involve the strain or sprain of these ligaments.
