Introduction

The abuse of drugs, alcohol and tobacco is now and has been a major concern in particular for the teenage generation. Drug abuse is also known as Substance abuse, which refers to a state in which the user consumes the drugs in quantities or in such ways which are not prescribed by doctors. Nowadays, Teenagers are more towards the drug abuse. This report will investigate some of the reasons why the abuse of drugs alcohol and tobacco is increasing in the teenage community and will also identify the steps that government can use to solve this problem.

2.0 Reasons for teenage drug usage

2.1 Stress

Stress can be one of the reasons, which can influence the teenagers to use drugs. The rising burden of studies is creating great stress on the minds of teenagers and to reduce this burden or stress they adopt drugs. According to DARP, most of the drugs produce feelings of pleasure and euphoria due to this people get attached to them. Stress can take them to any level and can make an individual's life unmanageable.

2.2 Influence

The major reason of teenagers getting into the drug abuse is due to the influence they get from their societal norms, traditions and culture.. Parents play an important role in development of their children, if they are not fulfilling their duties and responsibilities towards their children they will go through worst conditions. According to the DARP's report, between 40 to 60% of the people vulnerability to drug addiction is based on the genetic factors. Addicted parents or siblings can highly influence the teenagers as they can easily access the drugs with no problem.

3.0 Effects of teenage drug usage.

The above graph shows that the usage of drugs not only harms the users only but it harms others to greater extent as per the research conducted in UK by David Nutt, Leslie King and Lawrence Phillips.

3.1 Abusive behaviour.

The major effect of drug can be felt by ones behaviour. The behaviour of the drug abuser keeps on getting harsh and he/she gets ill-tempered. Usage of drugs can severely impact the brain development of an individual and can lead to neurological and negative behavioural consequences. Teenager can get into abnormal state due to the excessive use of drugs.

3.2 Drug addiction.
