Terrorism is done for the reasons of coercing or intimidating the civilian population, a government or any section of it due to the social and political purposes. There are two types of terrorism i.e. domestic and international terrorism. The domestic or local terrorism comprise of individuals or groups are directed at the building blocks of the population or government of United States without the foreign powers. The international terrorism includes the actions carried out by the foreign based groups or people who are outside of United States.

Generally, the groups of terrorists are state-directed, state-supported, or non-state-supported i.e. transnational or indigenous. At present, the maximum threat of terrorism to the U.S. comes from the extremist and fundamentalist Islamic groups. Some of major names are the Algerian Armed Islamic Group, the Party of God (Hizballah), and the Palestinian group Islamic Resistance Movement (HAMAS). However, this assignment will focus on the activities and history of HAMAS group as it is the extreme terror to the U.S. This group is able to create complicated conventional weapons as well as the biological and chemical agents (FAS, 2013).

Origin

The international terrorist group Hamas is an ellipsis in the Arabic language for “The Islamic Resistance Movement”. The term “Hamas” factually means “Zeal” and this term unquestionably and conclusively depicts about the people that are leading this group. In the mid of December 1987, the first Palestinian uprising (intifada) blown up. In the Gaza Strip, a group of the leaders of Muslim Brotherhood met in the residence of Sheikh Ahmed Yassin. At his residence, the leaders started The Islamic Resistance Movement i.e. “Harakat al Muqawama al Islamiyya”.

The international terrorist group Hamas has established in the views of Palestinians that it can attack the Israelis when they will counter attack them. Hamas has created a violent and aggressive campaign that is intended at its own Palestinian rivals chiefly Fatah and at Israel (Levitt, 2006). Hamas is at present limiting its military actions and that of the other groups of Palestine in the Gaza Strip.

Background

This international terrorist group is a framework for the symbol of the Muslim Brotherhood in the actions of the intifada. The foundation of Hamas is with the movement of Muslim Brotherhood, which is a branch of the Palestine. This movement is referred to as Brethren or Ikhwan whose history goes to the 1940s, and the parent branch of Egypt which originates in the 1928 (Scham, et al., 2009).

The delayed appearance of Hamas was developed from the animosity of Israel to the Palestine and the basic inactive policies of the Muslim Brotherhood begun for both the Jordan and Egypt (Zuhur, 2008). Different scholars describe Hamas that it emerged from an old organization called the “Mujama Islami” which was founded by the Shaykh Ahmed Yasin.
