Introduction

In the spring and winter of the year 1943, after the dreadful overthrown in Stalingrad, evidently losing and outnumbered the initiative in the East front, German High Command along with Hitler were planning for what they must do in the summer of the year 1943. In the month of July in 1943, the battle of Kursk took place. It was a World War II engagement and it was the biggest tank battle. This battle caused severe crisis for war machine of Nazi Germany in Russia. At that time, the situation was not good rather it was bad in war front. At the same time, the tank production of Russia augmented to unbelievable level. The battle took place between Soviet Union and German forces and this battle appeared to be the biggest battle of 2nd World War. The war ended with the victory and triumph of USSR through which they liberated Orzel, Kharkov and Belgorod. This represented the direct source of German failure in the 2nd World War. At that time the obsession of Germans towards new super weapons reduced the production of tanks largely.

The Russian situation before the occurrence of battle was bad as the Red Army attempted to employ any opportunity in order to continue its offensive. The Russians became exhausted after their first success. The Germans were on advantage side which helped in regaining the Red Army and Kharkiv which inflicted stern losses.

Furthermore, the battle of Kursk is considered to be the most famous and recognizable battles that took place at Eastern Front. People who are acquaint with 2nd World War; they know usually only two battles that took place between the Germans and Soviets. These two wars are Kursk and Stalingrad.

Background of the Battle of Kursk

The Germans were hoping to surround the Kursk in order to destroy it and due to this the battle took place in the spring and winter of the year 1943. When the Soviets bordered Stalingrad and expelled the Germans from the Caucasus, their violence continued to grow and did not take an end. The battle continued westward and took all the dominant cities in violence such as Kharkov and Rostov. Though, the Red Army overstretched itself and became ready for counter-offensive. The counterattack destroyed several Soviet units and made their occupied territory free. Thus, the Soviet was obtruding into the lines of Germans. The entire prepared idea was to stop to refit and rest the forces that contributed in counterattacks of Manstein in order to wait for the invention of new equipments. They palled also to upsurge new units. Afterwards, they made an attack for destroying the salient. CITADEL was the code name for the operation. The purpose of the battle of Kursk was that Germans were willing to invade the Kursk again whereas the Soviets were struggling and fighting to defend their territory.
