The Biomechanics of a Golf Swing

Introductions

In learning the art of swing as other specialties in sports, we try transmit to the athletes a general model technique that is considered optimal to continue to maximize the effort and get the best results possible. Clearly, the reproducibility of these models is relative and that, with time, what occurs is an adaptation of this model to the personal characteristics of the player himself (strength, characteristics anthropometric, neuromotor, etc.). Identifying each athlete's variation is critical in applying a predictive model to truly understand that particular athlete's strengths and weaknesses and to decide how to maximize the athlete's performance. Golf swing mechanics is a great example of mathematical modelling (McHardy ,2006). The quest for the perfect swing focused on identifying a model of optimizing acceleration. Unfortunately, most golfers have many flaws in their physique, range of motion, and flexibilities that will not allow them to duplicate a mathematical schematic model. As a result, the golf instructor is left to correct obvious swing flaws while adapting the swing mechanics to the unique physical abilities of the golfer.

The five stages of Golf Swing

Setup

The perfect golf swing is basically made with very few movements. The decisive factor is the built-up body tension caused by improper and unnecessary movements should not be repealed. Until you came to this realization, we tried all sorts of exaggerated movements to bring more speed in the golf swing. But even the strongest athletes quickly his arms will not move fast enough to even begin to get hold club head speed, which can be achieved with the help of a simple hip movement and body tension (McCarrol, 1996)

Backswing

The backswing is the first part of the swing in which the various parts of the body are activated by lifting the stick along an arc around the centre of the swing, represented by the sternum, to bring in an ideal position from the point of view that bio-dynamic biomechanical in a kind of slow and relaxed loading of a spring which is going to discharge on the ball in momentum of impact. The backswing is divided into two phases:

Takeaway

Upswing

Takeaway - represents the phase of detachment from the ball of the stick for the first 2 meters until the stick is not parallel to the ground. This initial movement has had various technical interpretations over time, the most widely used and is currently one called "one piece" used by most tour pros, where the initial movement is carried out exclusively by the shoulders and followed as late as possible by rotation of the hips and flex your wrists. Looking at the swing side, with this initial movement, when the stick is parallel to the ground is also parallel to the target line and the clubface is parallel with the left forearm (Hoffman, 2000).

Upswing - represents the step of lifting the club to the next 2-2.5 meters until the stick is not the apex. The upward movement is carried out simultaneously by the ...
