Introduction

The Casey Anthony case is about a charge of first degree murder of Caylee Marie Anthony by her own mother, Casey Marie where she was pledged not guilty. The case has been termed by the Times Magazine as the 'social media trial of the century'. Caylee was three year old girl who lived with her mother and maternal grandparents in Orlando, Florida. Her grandmother reported Caylee missing on July 15th, 2008 and informed the authorities that Caylee is missing since 31 days. The police investigated and found Casey's cars smell similar to human odor. Cindy reported that various explanations of Caylee whereabouts were given to them before she confessed that she is missing since weeks. Casey told the authorities a false story of Caylee being kidnapped by a nanny on June 9th and she was afraid to report it (Stevens, 2011).

On October 2008 Casey was charged of first degree murder and pledged not guilty. On 11th December, 2008 skeletal remains of Caylee were found near family home. According to the evidence, it was suggested that the murder was done with the help of duct tape. The trial of Casey Anthony lasted for six weeks. The court didn't emphasize on how Caylee died and if she was sexually abused as a child. Casey claimed that her daughter had died in a swimming accident. The blame for this she gave her parents, her grandfather had hidden the dead child in the woods. On 5th July, 2011 Casey was found not guilty by the court and because of her time served she was released on 17th July, 2011 (Bello & Welch, 2011).

Jury selection process

After 10 days the case started, non-sworn 14 potential judges were selected. The 12-memberjury comprised of Judge Belvin Perry. There were 20 members in total where 12 were juror and 8 were alternatives. The jury was sequestered at Rosen Shingle Creek Hotel. All in all there were seventeen jurors who usually resided in Pinellas Country. They were housed at the Rosen Shingle Creek in Orlando. The alternate juror for Casey Anthony case was Russell Huekler. The jury involved Attorney Mark Lippman, Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings, Attorney Lawson Lamar, Defense Attorney Jose Baez, and Defense Attorney Cheney Mason (Cloud, 2011).

Jury sequestration

After six weeks of the trial, the jury was sequestered so that no information other than the court can influence the available information. This was done because the trial caught huge media attention. During the procedure, they were isolated, that is cut off from the outside world to influence largely avoid to process the case in the U.S.

Jury verdict

Caylee was killed in 2008. Only six months after she was last seen alive, they found her body in a wooded area near the home of her grandparents. A pathologist could not determine the cause of death.
