Introduction

History is a never ending process. With every passing time, the time that we spent becomes the history. In everyone's live there is a point comes when they want to know or obtain information and knowledge about history or the happenings that occurred in olden times. Learning and getting information about the history is imperative to us. It lends a hand in tracing the evolution of mankind, culture and traditions. Moreover, it also provides us an opportunity to criticize or praise the work that is done by historians and those who write about history. The aim and objective of this paper is also to undertake discussion about history and present the criticism or praise of a work related to history. The topic that is selected for this purpose is “The donor party” and the work that is evaluated in this paper is a primary source. The primary source that is chosen for the discussion of this paper is an extract that is taken out from the journal of the one of the members of the Donner party. In the following part of the paper, a discussion is done in the light of this expert.

“Left Johnson's on the evening of April 13th, and arrived at the lower end of the Bear River valley on the 15th. Hung our saddles upon the trees, and sent the horses back, to be returned again in ten days, to bring us in again. Started on foot, with provisions for ten days, and traveled to the head of the valley, and encamped for the night; snow from two to three feet deep. Started early in the morning of the 15th and traveled twenty-three miles; snow ten feet deep.”

Thesis Statement

In the light of the above expert it can be said that the journey in which Donner Party was indulged was full of obstacles and they had to face extreme weather conditions. The purpose of this paper is to prove that it was the bad weather conditions and obstacles that they faced became the bad fortune of the members of the Donner Party.

Discussion

It was a group of 87 settlers who set out in 1846 to California like thousands of other Americans of that time seeking a better life in the West. Everything starts in the 1840s, driven by the financial crisis and outbreaks of cholera and malaria, Americans began to rush to the west. In this long series of adventures, the terrible episode is known as the Donner Party. The expert that is mentioned above is the story of one of the members of this group.
