The Period from the Reagan Revolution

Introduction

Ronald Wilson was the second president of the American post-war history, who ruled for two terms. He resigned, having a high social prestige, and significantly contributed to the fact that its vice president in 1988 was elected as his successor. Reagan had the goal to implement a program that would be known as the Reagan Revolution. The program included substantial cuts in taxes to benefit individuals and businesses, which was also one of the campaign promises of President George W. Bush who was a Republican like Reagan. In the first term, however, Reagan had to face a problem that afflicted Americans: high inflation, a legacy of the former president, Jimmy Carter (Appleby, 2003).

Discussion

Ronald Reagan left an enormous political legacy, particularly for Republicans, we are thinking about the fight in 2012 for the White House. This was back in 1980, the time when Reagan became the new elected president, this period was called by the Regan Revolution by the Conservatives, referring to his prominence on the reduction of the state apparatus, low taxes, and restoring national pride of America. In his departure addressed from the Oval Office in 1989, said this himself and Reagan (Cannon, 2000). The president called it as Reagan revolution

Today, Reagan is the idol of numerous Republicans who represent the national scene, together with several potential presidential candidates in the upcoming elections. The 40th president was not only liked by the republicans but was also liked by the President Obama who represent honor to Ronald Reagan's legacy. Here is what he once said during his presidential movement: “I think Ronald Reagan changed the trajectory of America” as it is not able to make Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton. He caught the feelings of the people, namely, we need clarity, and we want optimism".

During the campaign for the Congress in the last year, many Republican candidates referred to Reagan promised to fulfill his political precepts of more compact government and restore the American spirit. Apparently, those Republicans who will seek the support of his party in the presidential election next year, more than once mentioned the name of Ronald Reagan, and struggle to integrate themselves in the model for conservative leader which was demonstrated by who is willing to stand up for their principles.

Historians have noted some ironic contradictions in the political legacy of Reagan. Even though Reagan cut taxes, but at the same time, when he was president had approved and few solutions for their increase. He also led the federal government which was growing along with the promises to cut the taxes. However, even those who are critical of the former president and the results of its activities, to recognize that, once in office, he often showed leadership (Cannon, 2000).
