The Tormented Life of Robert Frost

Introduction

The American Poet Robert Lee Frost born in America, California, San Francisco. His mother was from Scotland, but she moved to America in early days, and father came from Nicholas Frost of Tiverton, England, who came by ship to New Hampshire in the year 1634 (Parini, p.15-20). As a profession, his father taught in school and edited in San Francisco's evening NEWS. His father died 1885 after that they moved to Lawrence, Massachusetts with the support of Robert's grandfather William, Sr., who was a supervisor at a New Mill England. Frost grew up in the wilds of post-goldrush San Francisco, but his poetry was grounded in his late adolescence and adult life in New England. F. often wrote poetry for his children, and although he was not expressly a poet for children, several collections, including A Swinger of Birches: Poems of Robert Frost for Young People (1982), reflect his ability to express childlike innocence and wonder (Frost, p.6-10). Other collections of his that are accessible to children and have been enjoyed by them include Come in and other Poems (1943), and You Come Too: Favorite Poems for Young Readers (1959), still in print and widely read. Birches, first published in 1916, are available in several illustrated editions; one outstanding volume is illustrated by Ed YOUNG. F.'s classic lyric has been issued as a single volume, stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening (1978), with softly evocative watercolors by Susan JEFFERS that complement the mood of the poem. His poems are also included in anthologies for children.

Discussion

Many of Frost's poems portray village life; his life also spent in the city and he published his initial poetry in the high school. Frost joined University of Dartmouth and was approved in the Theta Delta fraternities. After his college tenure, he returned back for teaching and working jobs, he felt that poetry will be the true career and passion for him. His first poem sold for 15 dollar, and later he married Elinor Miriam who was the influence for him to write poetry. Frost worked on the farm purchased by his grandfather for him for almost nine years and created many influencing poems. Most of the poems created by him later become famous. Frost died in U.S Boston, on 29th Jan, 1963.
