The Tuskegee Airmen

Introduction

From the beginning African American men and women have played a vital role in United States Army. But this country kept suppressing them and has denied them even their basic rights until World War 2. Before World War 2, the protectors of civil rights such as NAACP protested against the segregation within the United States. This institute was made in 1909, and the basic reason behind its creation was the protection of civil rights. Due to their immense pressure on government a national level meeting was organized which discussed the racial discrimination in United States. In 1932, NAACP criticized the conditions of labors in different parts of United States, and it was a fruitful effort. African Americans were not allowed to fly aircrafts in Air Force. The African American people were given an opportunity to transform their dreams into reality. These African American came from all over the United States. All of them were motivated, and they had a strong desire to do something for their country. The Tuskegee Airmen Institute was established in order to train people for military and Air Force.

This institute provided them with the required platform badly needed for their conditions to get better. In a way, black people had to fight for equality, justice and their place in society. It became the centre especially for training African Americans pilots. People trained from this institute were a group of people that entered into the military of United States during World War 2. The first African American unit for flying airplanes in Air Force was the 99th Fighter Squadron (Bucholtz, 2007). Later this group played their role in the fight with North Africa in 1943. In 1944, this squad joined the other three African American fighting groups. And this was called the 332nd group. Many laws were passed politically in order to eliminate discrimination against black people and secondly to fight for their respectable place not only in Army but also in society (The Tuskegee Airmen: A short history of the Tuskegee Airmen of World War 2, 1997).
