The Writing Process

Introduction

Writing helps people to think, to discover new ideas, to organize their thoughts and to explain or express them in a much better way. It is a key competence for their personal and intellectual development. The writing process consists of a series of steps that normally follow to write a text. Only in rare cases, a perfect text is written in the first attempt, but this is very rare. The usual and most common thing is that a text will go through stages of writing, editing, revising and rewriting. Writers move back and forth throughout the writing process. Many students have problems with producing their own texts. Mainly because they have little practice in it, partly because a written work, it is given only once, their shortcomings revealed much more clearly than verbal utterances, where you can talk his way out again. Problems and develop writer's block but mainly by the fact that misconceptions exist about how writing is as a production process going on.

The writing process involves several steps that normally follow to write an essay, story, poem, letter, advertisement, etc. Many writers go through the following steps.

Pre-Writing

Pre-writing consists a series of activities that need to be carried out to search for a topic, picking a genre (as of writing), produce ideas, get information, and clarify the hearing (Cutler & Graham, Pp. 907-919).

Reasons to write

What is the reason for writing? Why accomplish a task or job? Why convince someone and put it under certain ideas? Why respond to something you have read? Why give an opinion? Why to express personal ideas?

These are some of the reasons for writing. Sometimes more than one reason to do so, these should be recognized and kept in mind during the writing process. One can write some of these reasons and refer to them occasionally.

Who is the audience?

It is necessary to identify who will read the written text. In schools, the teachers generally are the audience. It is worth noting that who the audience will be, and one should refer to its audience occasionally.

Find a topic

Occasionally the subject is given by the instructor for a test or exam, etc. Nonetheless, at times the writer is the one who should generate the topic. Personal experiences, past or present events, or imaginations are some topics that the student use. They can think of the audience and as far as they would be interested or just start writing spontaneously generate thoughts that allow or help build a story.

Brainstorm

Writers should try to group as a core topic and write about it the ideas and words that come to mind. Writers can use the following questions: Who? What? Where? When? Why? One can make a list. Writers can try to write spontaneously about the topic. Can they argue the topic? If so, how? How is it referred to the topic? How does it affect others? Is it humorous or serious? What the audience knows about the topic? Occasionally it may refer to brainstorming.
