Introduction

Name not only serves the purpose for the recognition, but it also has its influence and reflection. These names are also the characteristic representation of the personality. Divine names are also very important and these names have more significance than just the reflection of the characteristic or serving the purpose of recognition. These names are very important and in every religion there are various names associated with God, which reflect the attributes of God associated with Him. Some of these names are associated with people's beliefs and perceptions towards God and their love and faith with which, they see God in different perspectives. Apart from these names, some names are of Divine importance, as they are mentioned in the scripture and used by God. This is the reason that some of the names are of more significant importance.

There are two significant names used in the first five books of the Old Testament, for God. In the Torah one of the names of God is Elohim, which is used in the Bible and in the Torah. Another important name used in the scripture is Yahweh. There is more significant value of these names because God, choose this name for Him. Both these names are used frequently in the Old Testament and in most of the English versions, the name Elohim is used for God especially when there is mention of the God of Israel as in Samuel 5:7. On the other hand, a literal meaning of the name Yahweh is “Lord”. In English version this name, Yahweh is also used with capital letters as YHWH. According to most of the theologians and scholars, both these names are used interchangeably, as these are very close in meanings or used as compound (Genesis 4:1; Judges 5:3; Isaiah 17:6).
