Introduction

Karen Honey is well known for her vast contribution towards the psychology of feminism (women). She states that mild anxiety disorder is created through several factors such as individual who rise as a child (nature) (Grossman, 1986). However, from teaching of Sigmund Freud paradigm has shifted because he indicate that there are neuroses have been created through the universal factors and results the lack of sex (nature). The debate between Freud and Horney has been well documented through writing of number of authors. This paper aims to discuss the written dispute between Freud and Horney over “Theory of Women Development”. This paper also discuss the significance of the modification that introduced by Horney, with respect of Freund concepts highlighted.

Freud indicates that feminism feels insecurities for being a female and prefers that she would be male because she can see significant difference of anatomy (Spector, 2013). Horney on other side believes other aspects from Freud and consider men possess a jealously from the anatomy of females and basically females are smarter than men. In addition, Horney did agree with this point of Freud that feminism jealousy of men, not because from the anatomy but due to hierarchical status of men posses within the society.

Empirical validity

Horney believes that there are neuroses through the usage of functional as well as dysfunctional interpersonal relationships, something might experience by Horney in her personal life. Her aim was on defense mechanism that uses to counter the neuroses regular creating a habit or the need to make the use mechanism of defense without need to employ them. Individual would use the method of defense prematurely to not experience the neuroses occur in the different situations.

Freud believes that lack of sex and innate behavior created nervousness; this would be the reason that individual would utilize the mechanism of defense in order to compensate it (Alpert, 2013). On the other side, basic anxiety of Horney could result from the variety of things that include erratic behavior, indifference, direct or indirect control, lack of proper guidance, lack of child respect towards the individual behavior, disparaging attitudes, lack of reliable warmth, lack of too much administration, isolation from other children injustice, too little or too much responsibility, having sides in parental agreement, lack of administration and over protection.
