Introduction

In Psychology, thinking ability is also known as cognitive ability. In order to understand this term, this could be categorized into two words: Ability, and Cognitive. Ability is defined as the trait of being competent enough to perform something; physical, financial, mental, or legal power to perform whereas the term able implies possessing sufficient ability. Ability is further categorized into general and exceptional abilities. These abilities are necessary to accomplish daily tasks. In order to accomplish difficult tasks, individuals need exceptional abilities. Cognitive ability (or thinking ability) refers to the cognitive procedures one is able to carry out in order to accomplish cognitive tasks. Cognitive task implies suitable processing of mental information and this processing are the major determinant of the accuracy and the success of the task. Cognitive task does not involve physical strength, and it is solely related to mind (Carroll, 1993).

Cognitive abilities are skills that individual should possess in order to carry out tasks that entails the efforts of mind. Those tasks might be simpler or complex. Cognitive abilities of an individual shape the mechanism of how that individual learns, memorizes, solve-problems and pay attention.

Human's intellectual capabilities are a subject of study in Psychology and Education for centuries. This is the most valuable part of psychological studies used to explore and solve issues in a variety of practical work in schools, employment settings, and clinics. Scientists, psychologists and educationist widely debate on the subject of cognitive abilities.
