Introduction

The organization which is selected for strategic income generation for tourism manager's topic is The National Gallery. The National Gallery is a Museum which is governed through an act known as Museum and Galleries Act, 1992. Though it comes under the category of charitable institute and it has a charitable status but the National gallery is exempted from the registration need which is a clause of charitable commission. This gallery is sponsored by the Department of Culture, Sports & Media. The Accounting offer is the director of The National Gallery and is appointed by the Department.

Background to the organization

The National Gallery was founded in 1842 and it has a collection of over 2300 paintings which covers the time from 13th century to 19th century. The collection of painting and other collections which are placed in the gallery belong to the people of UK. The gallery works 361 days and entry to the gallery is free of cost. The need of a national gallery occurred when it was noticed in 18th century that the art collections of different countries were exhibit in different galleries of the world. These collections help to promote the nationalism in the people of that area. In 1779 the Bavarian royal collection was exhibit in Alte Pinakothek, Munich, In 1789 Florence and the French royal collections were displayed in France in the year 1793. After the establishment of all these museum and art gallery people of UK thought for an Art Gallery which can help them to know about the England's royal family though display of their collection. The gallery was not suddenly build nor did the collections come all of a sudden. There was proper research that was made and paintings and other collections were bought accordingly. The National Gallery was seen as a necessary building to fulfil the purpose of society. At initial level the gallery was managed by the person who was also the keeper of the paintings. His name was William Seguier. The responsibilities were shared with the board of trustees in July 1824.

In this area of paper we will discuss in detail the activities and monetary generation's ways of The National Gallery. There are various activities that are performed in the gallery. Therefore, it cannot be said that it is just a place where people come to see the antique and ancient collectibles. The National Gallery has to offer other attractions for the visitors. It is a human psychology that people get bored to the routine life. More the attraction will be offered by the gallery more will be the revenue generated from their operations. It is not necessary that these attractions should completely match to the operations of the gallery. Diversification can also help the organization to increase the attraction to the gallery and it will also help the gallery to retain the customers.
