Introduction

Over the last few decades the demand for tourism to different cities has significantly enlarged. The tourism to various cities and countries depends on the interests of the tourists as some travel for the convention or business purposes while some are traveling on vacation to gain knowledge about other cultures. In addition, some people visit new areas for the development of specific interests, and for seeking amusement and entertainment.

There are diverse elements of the urban tourism that determines the attractiveness of a city for the tourists and visitors. These elements include the primary, secondary and additional aspects of the tourism resources of a city or area. The primary elements of a city provide the chief reasons of tourists visiting the city. Secondary elements like shopping and accommodations, and additional elements like tourist information and transportation, are also very significant for the sensation of the urban tourism (Zalun, 2012).

The extensive series of actions and relaxation hobbies that the tourists are looking for are expanding the offer in the tourism industry. Due to the increasing alertness of tourism among the political decision makers who are progressively dedicated to advance the tourism industry due to its diversification and a major factor in the economic growth that brings employment and wealth.

Tourism is considered as a foundation stone of a policy of urban development that unites a spirited furnish that is able to meet the tourists' expectations. In addition, a positive contribution to the growth and development of cities and towns as well as the happiness of their residents is included in the urban tourism.

Astoria, a city of 10,000 people on the Colombia River and is considered as the romantic gateway for the visitors and tourists. Astoria is the oldest settlement of the America along the west of the Rockies. Full of parks, amusements, waters, cafes, unique shops and museums, Astoria is a city which immensely attracts the tourists and visitors.

Background

The American cities practiced a vast rush in the tourism throughout the nineteenth century due to their growth in becoming the grand metropolitan areas. In the early 18th century, the industry of tourism targeted the wealthier people due to the fact that these people can afford to travel for enjoyment.

In the second half of the 18th century, the middle men also become rich enough to visit the urban areas along with that the cities also become accessible because of the trolleys and sightseeing cars. The city guidebook also played an important role in changing the view of people for the American cities. They characterized the urban areas with unique personalities and the beauty of the cities architecture (Ruetsche, 2006).
