Religion being good for the Society

There is a plenty of debate regarding the question whether religion is beneficial to the society or not. This issue is mainly related to cause and effect. Some people view society as a cause of the changes in religion while others have a view that religion has an effect on the society and prevents it from evil. Societies regard religion as one of the most important pillars that support societies. The societal approach to understanding religion discusses about the impact religion has on the lives of people in the society.

There are several differences in the arguments of opinions about religion. Functionalist theorists view religion as being beneficial to the society. They view religion as the foundation on which societies are based and it is religion that gives society a superior status compared to religion. There is a view that if religion did not exist, it would have been very difficult for people to live in societies. It provides a bond that unites beliefs and practices and ensures that people learn to respect each other (Radhakrishnan, 2007).

The relationship between humans and God can be considered the strongest relationship. This relationship helps build a relationship between human and the society. It is only when people begin to respect the society that they gain a strong sense of trust, unity, and faith. It is because of religion that humans are civilized and continue to develop (Stark, 2000). Every society requires a spark in order to keep it moving forward. This spark is provided by religion as gives humans a reason to live life in a way that the society may benefit.

It is a fact that the society teaches people to respect their religion. Without the role of the society, 0people would not focus on their religion and would begin to live their life as they wish. This shows that religion and the society are interrelates and one cannot survive without the other.

Religion plays a major role in governance by setting the customs and norms of the society. In some societies, the laws are based on religion and by following these laws people are actually practicing their religion. The absence of religion would make everyone to sin and there would be no reason to feel guilt.
