Introduction

This plan aims to detail out a vocabulary development program for the class of students who are not well acquainted with the English language and therefore needs a vocabulary development program. This plan uses a variety of literature present on the vocabulary development in order to prepare a comprehensive vocabulary development program for the identified class of students. The program first establishes the goals that are sought to be accomplished by it. It than performs the need analysis and the environmental analysis with respect to the context in which the program is aimed to be implemented. A detail about the vocabulary teaching principles including the teaching techniques, the course duration and the content of the vocabulary development program is provided. Assessment approaches are also provided in the program to evaluate whether the program is working well or not. In the end, the program includes some anticipated problems that might occur in executing the program or accomplishing goals of the program.

The vocabulary development program aims:

To provide a platform for getting familiarize with the English vocabulary to those students for who English act as a foreign and secondary language.

To make the students learn and remember 1000 most frequent words used in the English language.

To make the students able to use the learnt 1000 most frequent words properly in their communication and education.

To make the students able to comfortably work with those students for whom English language is a primary language.

Need analysis

Need analysis is important to conduct in order to identify the gap between the current state and the intended state to be achieved by implementing the vocabulary development program. A needs assessment survey needs to be conducted to comprehend the actual level of the proficiency and acquaintance of the students regarding the vocabulary.

In this scenario, the target audience has a quite low proficiency level. This can be attributed to the fact that they are not the English natives. They are not even familiarized with the most frequent vocabulary being used in the English language. This poor and inadequate vocabulary is most likely to affect their education and learning. The importance of being familiarized with the English vocabulary in affecting the education and learning capability of the students is crucial. Since vocabulary development is important for education and learning, there is a need to provide the identified group of students a vocabulary development program.

This development program will seek to enrich their vocabulary of at least 1000 most frequent words used. This vocabulary enrichment will help them to better participate and perform in education and learning activities, thus shifting from the current state to desired state eliminating the gap.
