People have many distinct was of considering with things. Some may be adept to converse about their matters and other ones may proceed to another source. For demonstration, portraying as if the past has nothing to do with the present may be one way. This way does not release or mends the soul. This is glimpsed in the short story Sonny's Blues, the major individual features takes several attempts to understand one another and overlook about their past. Sonny's melodies, on the other hand, had a important purpose in this story. The factual significance of Sonny's music is that it redeems both Sonny and the brother.

To Sonny the blues was a way to release his inward demons. It was something that let him articulate himself without the use of words. According to Albert, “jazz is a kind of music noted for individuality because it counts on each musician ability to improvise his or her concepts while keeping harmony.” He sensed like himself while playing the piano, he sensed free. The kind of melodies Sonny performed had the power to make one listen. Implied when the narrator states, “He and his boys were holding it new…in alignment to find new ways to make us listen.” furthermore, Sonny states, “I was with it, really, and I could play or didn't have to play it (music) it just came out of me, it was there” (Baldwins 2008).This means that Sonny didn't take much time in conceiving a piece, before performing, it just routinely came out of him. His melodies was manifest by the pain he endured inside.

On the other hand, the narrator had no sign what Sonny's melodies was about. When he was inquired, by Sonny, about a jazz musician he knew of; his answer was Louis Armstrong. Whom was actually address a no one in Sonny's eyes. While referencing back to Albert he said, “Armstrong certainly was a highly regarded jazz musician”(Albert, 2004). Furthermore the narrator says, “ I had never thought about it before. I had always put jazz musician in the class with good- timer people” (Baldwin 2008). This statement implies that jazz musician were look down upon in the narrators eyes. Another reason the narrator did not like the musician idea is because he thought it had a lot to do with Sonny's drug addiction.

Sonny resulted into taking drugs to numb the pain he was feeling inside. His brother was not around to talk to Sonny when he needed it. Sonny felt alone a times. He felt like his acquaints was more family then his brother was. One of Sonny's friend gave Sonny the idea that being high was something that made one feel great.
