The past year was somewhat difficult for me. I was told that my son was presenting symptoms of an ADD/ADHD child. It was difficult to accept the truth, but after reading books on the subject, I came to learn that having ADD/ADHD is not a problem, but instead it can be a gift for some children, if it's treated the proper way. As a single mother, I am assuring to learn all that is needed on ADD/ADHD to help my son succeed in life, as a normal child.

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is the present period in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV-TR; American Psychiatric Association [APA], 2000; see Chapter 79 for a reconsider of the DSM) to classify individuals displaying persistent, pervasive, developmentally inconsistent, and maladaptive levels of inattention and/or hyperactivity and impulsivity. Literally hundreds of articles are published each year addressing a vast array of issues pertaining to this intriguing and sometimes controversial disorder.
