Introduction

This paper intends to discuss various management issues the Blue Sky Company is facing. The issues will be responded from the perspective of Management and Leadership program. My total course learning will be revealed in this paper. I will try to utilize the management concepts I have learnt during this course and amalgamate those concepts with my own personal thinking in order to answer the issues faced by the company.

Discussion

Being a consultant who is reporting to Willis who is the Chief Executive Officer of Blue Sky Software Consulting Firm is asked to examine the management issues faced by the Blue Sky Software Firm. Blue Sky is a software consulting firm which initiated its business around fifteen years ago. The company is facing several issues related to the management of company affairs and management of human resources.

It is suggested in today's modern business that human resources are most important to manage. In order to gain the maximum competitive advantage companies need to manage their human resources most efficiently because this is the only resource which leads to enhance the productivity levels of any firm. For this purpose, four basic areas for improvement are identified which are leadership styles, motivation, strategic planning and the organizational structures and its various elements. Being a consultant for Blue Sky I am supposed to support Willis in order to create such an effective management plan which suits the requirements of the company at most. I will examine and answer all the issues respectively.

Leadership Styles

The primary difference in the leadership styles of past and present prevailing in the organization is related to being autocratic and collaborative. In the past, the leaders were autocratic in nature. Such kind of leadership refers to a working environment where the leader will impose the directions and all others will have to follow. Followers have no choice of their own, the only task they do is to follow what the leader has asked for. 'Dictatorship' can be another word used for such a leadership style. These leaders does not like when their subordinates try to question or argue the directions provided by them. Subordinates are not allowed to do anything with their own will. Leaders like Max Blue never appreciated the concepts of 'team meetings' and he assumed that planning strategically is of no use. He never likes being questioned about his authorities. ...
