The British Colonialism in America

British colonialism is definitely the ideal case of huge expansion which occurred in America and the dominance of culture they had in this region was quite strong. It covered the largest amount of land which had a percentage of around 25% of the total value of land. In 1607, Britishers developed their first permanent colony in America with the establishment of Jamestown in Virginia. This led to the development of another 13 English colonies which later on claimed independence from Britain in 1776 when the Revolutionary war was fought and finally the formation of USA took place.

Britishers were even successful in developing or annexing colonies in the West Indies that included the colonies of Barbados, Jamaica and the Bahamas during 1660s. As they competed with French colonials who covered the huge part of Canada so the Britishers created their own posts for fur-trading and forts in 1670. The African slaves were bought from their respective countries to work in the British sugar plantations in West Indies and they even dominated the slave trade where most of the African workers were imported from West Africa. The African slaves in America were used a lot by the Britishers in the industrial work. (Calloway, 1997)

The expansion of the European colonies in America aggravated fierce conflict in the 18th century. However, the European colonies in America were not strong and the Native Americans were in small number because of which they arranged themselves in an independent political entity. The wars that took place during the period of colonialism were not based on the issue of Indians against the Whites. Instead, the level of the conflict usually involved an alliance of Europeans and native peoples against the parallel force which was the other group of the Europeans and a different group of Native Americans.

The Native Indians formed an important part of the military force in every conflict which was fought on the American land during the period of colonialism. They gave lots of benefits to the European people because of their high knowledge of the local geography, their strong military and many other things which were the key to give tough time to the opponents.
