Abstract

In this study, we try to explore the concept of “Business Improvement” in a holistic context. The main focus of the research is on “International Geological Congress” and its relation with “Business Improvement proposal”. The research also analyses many aspects of International Geological Congress and tries to gauge its effect on Australia. Finally the research describes various factors which are responsible for this Congress and tries to describe the overall effect of 34th International Geological Congress on Australia. It promotes Australia 2012 at all appropriate national and regional geoscience meetings and arrange wherever feasible for such meetings in 2012 to be incorporated into the 34th IGC.

Introduction

International Geological Congress is an international scientific association of geologists, whose task is to promote theoretical and practical research in the geosciences and scientific information exchange. International Geological Congress IGC is held every 4 years with a rotation of venue in the world. In 2000, IGC was held in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), 2004 - Florence (Italy). In 2008, the IGC in Norway, and in 2012 - in Australia (Brisbane). Over its 124-year history of the Geological Congress IGC held only once in the Oceania region, it was in 1976 in Sydney. In 2012, Congress would be the proper name "Australia 2012 " and will include, along with the scientific program of the Congress, a number of social events, visiting many interesting places to geologists, the general education program and, of course, the exhibition GeoExpo (Geikie, 2008).

The 34th International Geological Congress (IGC), or AUSTRALIA 2012, will be held in Brisbane, Queensland, from 2 - 10 August 2012. The IGC has a high profile and a tradition dating back to 1878, and is generally held every four years. The event will be of considerable interest to all people involved in geoscience, be they in universities, industry, government or the broader public. The scientific sponsor of the IGC is the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS).

Australia 2012

By agreement with the IUGS, the Australian Geoscience Council (AGC), the peak representative body of eight geoscience-related societies in Australia, is underwriting AUSTRALIA 2012. As the national geoscience and geospatial information agency, Geoscience Australia (GA, see www.ga.gov.au) is making considerable contributions towards AUSTRALIA 2012 in the form of financial and in-kind support. GA is providing the President - Dr Neil Williams - and the Secretary General - Dr Ian Lambert. GA is also contributing to promotions of AUSTRALIA 2012, and providing personnel for the delivery of several products for the event. A Brisbane-based Professional Conference Organiser (PCO) - Carillon Conference Management - has been appointed to work with the Organising Committee. Queensland Events is providing financial support.
